At 1.2 millimeters, DVDs are the same thickness as CDs, with the main difference being that DVDs are made up of two 0.6 millimeter substrates bonded together. This allows for a greater rigidity in DVDs over CDs, meaning less 'wobble' occurs when they are spinning and as a result greater reliability for the laser reading.
DVDs are available in four component 'flavours' which can be combined in any number of ways to produce your final product. Each configuration has a different designation, which roughly equates to the storage available. DVD-10 is the official designation for a Double-Sided, Single-Layered 12 cm DVD.
DVD-10 has a total storage of 8.75 Gigabytes, which equates to an average run time of 270 minutes, or 135 minutes per side. As a double-sided disc, the primary print option is a text only ring near the inner edge of the hub. Please contact our sales team for more information.
One of the key advantages of double-sided discs is the ability store multiple versions of the same title, without increasing your inventory of stock. |

Common examples are:
• PAL content on one side, with NTSC content on the other (The DVD Spec does not allow you to mix PAL & NTSC content within the same DVD project.) or
• Widescreen presentation on one side and fullscreen presentation on the opposite side. As a DVD-10 is basically two DVD-5s 'bonded' back to back, the same considerations apply when supplying masters for replication.
As long as your DVD-VIDEO Title does not require region encoding or copy protection, 24-7 DVD can accept 2 x DVD-R masters for DVD-10 replication jobs.
Please contact our sales team for more information. Although Double-Sided DVD-Rs are available, they are not particularly popular, and are more susceptible to damage than their Single-Sided counterparts. |
