At 1.2 millimeters, DVDs are the same thickness as CDs, with the main difference being that DVDs are made up of two 0.6 millimeter substrates bonded together.
This allows for a greater rigidity in DVDs over CDs, meaning less 'wobble' occurs when they are spinning and as a result greater reliability for the laser reading.

Each configuration has a different designation, which roughly equates to the storage available.
DVD-2 is the official designation for a Single-Sided, Dual-Layered 8 cm DVD. DVD-2 has a total storage of 2.47 Gigabytes, which equates to an average run time of 75 minutes.
As a single-sided disc, a number of print options are available for the blank 'label' side.
